Rosie has been attending classes at Joiwithfitness for over 4 years now. Always a positive attitude and exploring the possibility of being an instructor herself soon. Her dad has his own catering business, so she struggles with balancing the two. She's been committed to working put and learning how to make better choices with food.

Work In Progress: I lost 80 lbs and counting!I have struggled with my weight since high school. At the age of 23, I was diagnosed with PCOS, which makes it hard to lose weight. For years, I was depressed and the weight kept piling on. It wasn’t until one day I was riding the train from work and saw my reflection in the window. I didn’t even recognize the round person staring back at me. In mid 2012, I began my journey to do something about my weight. I wanted to become healthy and fit. My starting weight was 289 lbs. I consulted with a nutritionist who was very encouraging and provided me with the nutritional tools I needed to lose weight. I also came into contact with one of the best, motivating, and inspiring instructors, Alice Scott, who made me feel comfortable working out at my own fitness level. I joined Joiwithfitness, and attended as many classes that were offered. Joining Joiwithfitness was the best thing that happened to me. We work hard while having fun. Working out with this group of women inspired me, but most of all motivated me to keep moving forward. I am determined and more disciplined in my food consumption. I exercise daily. What I have learned on my lifestyle change journey, it is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. It is a struggle and hard work, but so well worth the results. At 36 years of age, my current weight is 209 lbs and I feel better and stronger than ever. On days when I am not as motivated to workout, I think about Alice saying “You got this” or “You not tired” and I keep pushing forward. I am still a work in progress. I am a true believer in the JoiwitFitness mantra, “I love myself. I am Beautiful, Confident and Courageous.” Thank you Joiwithfitness!
In late winter of 2012, I was at my highest weight that I had ever been in my life at 370lbs. I ate McDonald’s constantly, didn’t exercise, had poor self-esteem, and my fiancée of four years had recently broken up with me. One of my friends encouraged me to start taking care of myself by eating healthier because of the health risks that I had been prone to for so many years. After finally understanding what it meant to eat healthy, the weight gradually started coming off. In April of 2013, my cousin asked me to go to Alice Scott’s Zumba class to see if I liked it, and if it would help me. On the day of the class, I was really nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, and I didn’t think I would be able to do the dance moves due to my size. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was so nice to me and made me feel very comfortable. The music was fun to listen to and very uplifting. While dancing, if I felt that I wasn’t comfortable enough to do a dance move, then I would march in place or do a modified version of the move.
Not once did I feel that people were watching me or judging me, which was very important to me. I felt accepted by my classmates. After the class, my cousin introduced me to Alice. I enjoyed talking to her very much. She gave me some tips on how to do the dance moves and what moves I could do instead of the ones that I was uncomfortable doing. From that moment forward, I have been faithfully attending as many Zumba classes with Alice as possible. I have lost a total of 162 lbs. since I started to make life changes with my eating and exercise. I truly enjoy coming to Alice’s Zumba class. It is something that I look forward to each time and I know that when I leave the class, I will always be in a better mood than what I started out in. I also enjoy Zumba because Alice is a phenomenal instructor who is very uplifting, always friendly, challenges you to do more, and still makes the class comfortable and safe.
